What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for centuries. It’s based on the theory that energy, called chi, flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians.

Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your chi, or qi. Acupuncture is a method used to unblock or influence chi and help it flow back into balance.

The process of Acupuncture is done by inserting very thin needles into your skin at certain points on your body. The treatment is used in order to influence the energy flow. Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles.

What Conditions are treatable with Acupuncture?

The use of Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in treating disorders of the nervous system, endocrine and immune system, cardiovascular system, and the digestive system. By stimulating the body’s various systems, acupuncture can help to resolve pain, and improve sleep, digestive function, and sense of well-being.

Acupuncture can be used to treat conditions such as:

  • muscle spasms and pain
  • chronic back problems and pain
  • headaches & migraines, including reducing the frequency and intensity
  • neck pain
  • osteoarthritis
  • knee pain
  • allergies
  • digestive problems
  • mood, depression & anxiety

How many treatments do I need?

The amount of sessions needed differ from person to person. Some clients will have improvement from the very first session, whereas chronic conditions will need a series of sessions over a period of time. Each individual will be assessed accordingly.
